Greetings Prayer Warriors,
The Super Bowl was a lot of fun, wasn’t it? Now that it is
history and football season is finally over, I sense a general listlessness in
people, as if waiting for the next big event. Conversely, I feel a stirring. The Super Bowl madness showed me such
spiritual sadness. Nothing is wrong with enjoying sports, but it seems to me
that the soul of society is slowly slipping into a spiritual sloth.
Imagine the view from the heavenly realm.
- A large stadium is sold out; churches are empty.
- While churches adjust schedules to accommodate the big games, sports teams no longer shun Sunday games and practices to accommodate worship of our Lord.
- While we couldn’t wait to hear what the Super Bowl commercials would promote, we turn a deaf ear to gospel messages.
- Standing, screaming and cheering for a sports hero makes perfect sense to most as they show respect admiration, and adulation for the player they love. Conversely, bowing, kneeling and praying to God now seems out of place to most of society.
- While it’s common to watch sports for hours, idolize our sports heroes, and adorn our bodies with apparel that bears their name, for some reason it’s freakish if one wears apparel that bears the name of our Lord, spends time in worship, or spends hours watching shows that are deemed religious or faith-based.
- While many willingly pay an exorbitant price to attend a big sporting event and splurge on concession food, conversely they have difficulty tithing appropriately at church, which is free all the time.
It is the hour now for you to awake from sleep. For our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed; The night is advanced, the day is at hand. Let us then throw off the works of darkness [and] put on the armor of light. Romans 13:11-12
My son, do not forget my teaching, take to heart my commands; For many days, and years of life, and peace, will they bring you. Do not let love and fidelity forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. Then will you win favor and esteem before God and human beings. Proverbs 3:1-4
Let us pray for a spiritual reawakening in the family. Lord, help us to find balance in our lives so
that may we never squeeze you out. May our time with you come first, and may we
praise you for the enjoyment we receive from other activities. Give us hearts
that yearn for you. Help us both as a
family and as a society to keep your front and center. May we always bear witness to your love by
loving others. May the earth one day be
filled with people who believe in you, adore you, trust in you, and love you. May our collective praise of you one day be a
deafening delight .
Peace, Joy, and Love,
Janet
