As you all know, this blog is a spiritual one of prayer. So as you read on, you may wonder about the content. Let me first explain. Many believe there is a major political battle going on right now, but I see it as a spiritual one. Satan, the “Father of Lies” has insidiously been influencing our culture. Marriage, family, and children are his prey and his impact on the culture is undeniable.
When the battle is spiritual, the best weapon is prayer. But we are also called to action: to speak the truth, to speak out about injustices, and to protect the vulnerable.
The following kept coming to me this week. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; John 1:3-4
Intrigued, I decided to reread the Declaration of Independence. What I read stuck me as very profound, and as pertinent today as it was in 1776. I have included an excerpt below. Read it slowly to absorb the impact of it’s meaning.
“When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”
They promise them freedom, though they themselves are slaves of corruption, for a person is a slave of whatever overcomes him. 2 Peter 2:19
Do not be afraid. Go on speaking, and do not be silent, for I am with you. Act 18: 9-10
If you remain indifferent in time of adversity, your strength will depart from you. Proverbs 24:10
Pray. Pray for our nation, pray for our leaders. Pray that you and your family will be open to the will of God in your lives, and that you remain attentive to the Lords’s call to action. Teach your biologic and spiritual children the Gospel messages, and pray for our future generations.
