Pray for Marriages (Self Reflection)

Greetings Prayer Warriors,

The beauty of the under-utilized sacrament of Confession is it forces one to self reflect; not superficially, but deeply. It forces a self-inventory. How are you living, behaving, interacting and talking? This is in context to any relationship, but for now, view it in light of your marital relationship.

Watch carefully then how you live, not as foolish persons but as wise, making the most of the opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not continue in ignorance, but try to understand what is the will of the Lord. Ephesians 5:15-17

Marriage calls for us to serve one another, helping one’s spouse on the road to holiness. Sometimes you have to pull your spouse out of hell before you can even point them toward holiness!

Be subordinate to one another out of reverence for Christ. Ephesians 5:22

Marriage calls for a reciprocity of self-giving, and it’s not always 50-50.

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the church and handed himself over for her. So [also]husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. Ephesians 5:25

The previous is worth pondering. If the two become one in marriage, you must first love and accept yourself or you will never be able to truly love and accept your spouse. If you suffer from self-loathing or self-doubt, ask the Lord to show you why He loves you so.

Much prayer, fasting, and sacrifice is needed to achieve the heavenly ideal of marriage. You never walk alone. We are here to pray for each other, especially those who have lost hope and cannot bring themselves to even pray. May our prayers and sacrifices lift those who stumble, and encourage those who are weary from their journey.

Peace, Joy, and Love,
Janet
