Pray for Marriages (The Perception of Perfect)

 Greetings Prayer Warriors,

A friend recently commented, “From reading your blog posts, I would think you have the perfect marriage, but I know that not to be true.” I was taken aback and a bit stunned by that perception. Who continues to write a blog post requesting prayers for marriage and family for almost 15 years if they have a perfect marriage and family?? When everything is perfect, one doesn’t even think they need God!

Marriages span a continuum. Some look perfect, but never are. Others look a bit messy, yet the relationship can be quite solid.  Most marriages have their good weeks and bad weeks, good years and bad years. All of them need prayers. Prayer is not only a petition for the fortification of marriages, but a call that each draws closer to God. For no marriage will improve unless at least one of the individuals surrenders to God’s will. Each individual has vices that aren’t helping the relationship. We must grasp the Lord’s hand to be led!

For when you were slaves of sin, you were free from righteousness. But what profit did you get then from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. Romans 6:20-21

Does the above conjure up anything for you? Perhaps words slung in anger? Aggression or passive aggression? Lingering resentment? Silent treatment? One may think they are getting back at their spouse, but in reality, they have injured two relationships, the first being with God!

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa!

In their distress they cried to the LORD, who saved them in their peril, sent forth his word to heal them, and snatched them from the grave. Let them thank the LORD for his mercy. Psalm 107:19-21

The Word is to be a healing balm or sometimes as an unexpected sword to awaken the senses. This blog and our prayers are for the imperfect and the sinners. Therefore, all are welcome to receive the Word and to the fruit of our collective prayers. Never stop your commitment to praying whether that be contemplative, spoken, or in deed! Pray, pray, pray! May God awaken you to his mercy and bless your marriage or the one you pray for, abundantly!

Peace, Joy, and Love,

Janet
